Vacancy - Loosing Reality series

"How does one experience loss? What does loss look like?
Catastrophic losses usually have a face; think war photos, photos from the World Trade Center, crashes of various sorts but I am interested in personal loss.
I have always been interested in alternate states of reality, the meaning of dreams, what becomes of our spirits after death (and before birth). We all deal with "loss" in some form, loss of friends, home, youth, and the ultimate loss, loss of life. Death transforms us; reality shifts, but to what?
I am intrigued with how a person adapts to losses in their lives; how they are absorbed by events and changed; how they experience loss. I set about to address these issues through a photographic photosynthesis in this body of work; choosing photography as the medium to help me reveal reality while at the same time transform that reality to reflect loss.
In these images, I have placed my husband (Michael) in various environments where a loss of some sort has recently occurred. Some of the losses were very specific and personal and some were of a general, universal nature reflected in an inner state of anguish and eventual acceptance", Ellen Jantzen.

The Insectary is a place where insects are kept, exhibited, and studied.
"I took photos with my digital camera of various types of insects, then I uploaded them into my computer. The insects were isolated from their original backgrounds and then I manipulated the isolated insect images in various ways using Photoshop.
Combinations of insects were overlaid into many different kinds of abstract configurations, cut into pieces, and collaged in unexpected ways forming never before seen composites. In most cases, the original colors of the insects were also changed", Michael Jantzen.

Transcending Nature series

"Forests and trees have played a prominent role in many folktales and legends and have been given deep and sacred meanings. They are seen as powerful symbols of growth, decay, and resurrection. I am responding by striving to make visual the ephemeral nature of sacred, spiritual realms", Ellen Jantzen.
Ellen Jantzen is a digital photographer. She creates work that bridges the world of photography, prints, and collage. Ellen was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She obtained degrees in graphic arts; fine art, and fashion, both in St Louis, and Los Angeles. She also worked as a project designer at the Mattel Toy Company, an experience that deepened her knowledge of computer design, mostly using Photoshop software. Her explorations led her to focus in the photographic arts, using both a camera to capture imagery, and a computer to alter, combine, and manipulate the pieces.
Ellen’s work has been shown and published internationally and nationally. She has received many awards spanning an extended career. Some of the most important in recent years: Finalist – One Eyeland’s Top 10 Landscape Photographers 2018; Fine Arts Winner Rangefinders 2018 Photography Awards; The Photography Gala Awards chose Ellen’s work to be featured in the 5th Biennale of Fine Art & Documentary Photography October 4-21, Barcelona Spain; Gold Winner in the Annual Tokyo International Foto Awards (Fine Art-Special Effects, Professional) for her series. Her work has been commissioned multiple times and is in prestigious corporate and individual collections worldwide.

"Some say we are all immigrants but many indigenous people have lived in one location for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. In this series, I am addressing the more recent acts of relocation.
The place of one's birth greatly influences who they are but through moving, new foods, cultures, languages, and landscapes await to reshape their very being. Acceptance and rejection play a part in this.
I was born in the Midwest, moved as a young adult to California, then back to the Midwest to help aging parents. After their passing, I headed west again, this time alighting in New Mexico. Even though I didn't really encounter a great deal of differences in people there were subtle language differences, definitely food differences, and some culture shifts that required adjustment on my part.
The most profound change for me was the landscape.
Here I am blending photos from my years in the Midwest (mainly rural Missouri and Illinois) with current photos I’ve taken while living in New Mexico.
I feel that one's landscape, whether rural, suburban or urban, can utterly reshape them and how through relocation they grow and flourish. They become, in essence, a blending of all former homelands with the present", Ellen Jantzen.

I was born in the Midwest, moved as a young adult to California, then back to the Midwest to help aging parents. After their passing, I headed west again, this time alighting in New Mexico. Even though I didn't really encounter a great deal of differences in people there were subtle language differences, definitely food differences, and some culture shifts that required adjustment on my part.
The most profound change for me was the landscape.
Here I am blending photos from my years in the Midwest (mainly rural Missouri and Illinois) with current photos I’ve taken while living in New Mexico.

RETURNS:

For large items, the freight carrier will call you to set up an appointment. You will need to be present and responsible to receive your order. Upon delivery, any boxes left outside without your inspection, will not be considered if damage is present. Steps you need to take:
- Inspect your order for freight damage. If any, take pictures immediately.
- Note damage and sign the carrier receipt. You will keep a copy.
- If this is neglected, a replacement, refund or claim cannot be processed by either manufacturer or retailer.
- Keep packaging materials if damage occurred.
